About me
Hello, I'm Rashi.
A watercolour and mixed media artist based in Delhi, India, who likes to paint animals (specially pets), nature and many other things.
I believe that art is deeply personal, but also something to share and find common joy in!
Growing up in a home full of large windows in a tranquil neighbourhood, I developed a deep reverence for the sky and for quietude. A feeling shaped by light, space, and other creatures sharing our world. This finds a way into everything I paint.
I enjoy painting for people for the moments that matter to them – a beloved pet, a place that holds memory, a home that needs to feel like one.
A little personal story
This wasn't always my path.
I grew up watching my mother paint - on fabric, marble tiles, plywood...even hands with henna. Large oil paintings from her youth lined our walls. Her father had taught her to observe closely and draw. I also remember watching my father casually sketch a portrait of my brother, despite no experience in art. Very early I became aware of what good art could look like and it awed and overwhelmed me. I didn't take to it.
After two Science degrees I moved through many worlds - scientific research, conservation, alternative education, ecommerce, and even mountaineering. Disparate as they were, what tied them together were curiosity and a deep need for freedom.
The hard part..
At thirty, my life fell apart in ways I hadn't seen coming. For a while, getting through each day was enough. During the lowest of lows, I felt a pull and began teaching myself to draw and paint.
That was over seven years ago. Since then I have been painting and sharing my work.
I have sold hundreds of pieces at outdoor markets (in Delhi and Montreal), to kindred souls I met on social media and through word-of-mouth. I have learnt from remarkable teachers on the way (still am), exhibited in three group shows (at Red House, Planterie and Stainless Steel Gallery) and found my way to a dedicated studio in the heart of the city.
